The latest blockbuster of Young Rebel Star Prabhas, Kalki 2898 AD, hit theatres on 21st June and is creating waves at the box office. The film has not only seen box office success but a flood of applause worldwide.
When Kalki and Prabhas’s performance were being showered with accolades by the fans and critics, it was then that Bollywood actor Arshad Warsi dropped a bomb. Warsi provocatively commented on Prabhas’s get-up in the movie, saying it looked “joke[ly],” an invitation for wide discussion and backlash.
Several leading film personalities have reacted in displeasure at Warsi’s comments. One of them is actor Siddhu Jonnalagadda, who openly condemned Warsi’s remarks.

Siddhu wrote an open letter condemning Warsi for his insensitive comments and added that he felt such a criticism was uncalled for and disrespectful to a film and an actor that have garnered so much positive attention and acclaim.
Siddhu, through the open letter, has asked for respect in public discourse on creative works requiring huge efforts and talent. “Constructive criticism is welcome,” he says, “though denigrating remarks against an achievement of people and their work cannot be accepted.”
This incident has opened a broader debate on what actually is the nature of criticism in the film industry and the need to respect the hard work of artists.
