The state has been experiencing moderate to heavy rainfall for the past few days, with many changes observed in the weather. All these changes have increased the mosquitoes in urban areas tremendously, and viral fevers, especially dengue, are on the rise. Be it urban or rural, hospitals are jam-packed with patients suffering from dengue, chikungunya, and malaria. Authorities say that some government hospitals have seen 10 to 30% more outpatient visits. The scenario in private hospitals is not different either.
In the past 20 days, this has increased drastically with these fevers. In Telangana, a rapid increase in dengue cases has been reported. During the last two months, viral fevers, cold, cough, and other respiratory problems have been troubling the residents.
The rains have further worsened the problem, as poor sanitation bred many of these diseases. As per the health department officials, the number of dengue cases has gone up across the state, particularly in Hyderabad and the adjoining districts of Ranga Reddy, Medchal, Suryapet, Nalgonda, and Khammam.

So far this year, 4,395 dengue cases have been reported, a large number of them in Hyderabad. But unofficial estimates put the figure at ten times the official number. Health officials also admitted that apart from dengue, symptoms of chikungunya, malaria, and Japanese encephalitis were also being seen in patients. Blood samples were being collected from the suspected cases and sent for confirmation.
It is still bad in rural and agency areas where many members of the same family fall prey to the disease and are sent to hospitals. They are treated on an outpatient basis as there is a shortage of beds in the hospital. Doctors and health experts have appealed to the people to take preventive measures against mosquito bites, use boiled and filtered water for drinking, and avoid stored food items.
They also urged them to contact doctors immediately if symptoms of fever, persistent cough, sneezing, or breathing pain occur.
