South Africa vs Afghanistan Highlights T20 World Cup 2024 Semifinal: South Africa won this highly anticipated match in dramatic fashion to secure a spot in the final of the T20 World Cup for the very first time, but Afghanistan critically faltered at their batting innings as they managed only 56 runs in 11.5 overs before getting bowled out after winning an important toss. The result never looked in doubt as South Africa, chasing a modest target of 57 runs, lost just one wicket in 8.5 overs to record a convincing win.

Afghanistan now started off to bat with high hopes but struggled right from the beginning. Many of its wickets fell one by one. Quinton de Kock, with a brisk 5 ran, was quickly sent off; next came Hendricks for 29 and captain Markram for 23, who batted really well, anchoring the innings. They reached 60 with the loss of an opener in 8.5 overs.

In Afghanistan’s bowling, Farooqi took 1 wicket, but others failed to make significant breakthroughs. Their lack of wickets dooms their efforts as South Africa chased their target confidently. They did a very disciplined display of batting that ensured an easy win.

Ultimately, then, failure to bat well enough proved too costly for Afghanistan in the semifinal. Only Gurbaz made double digits—in fact, 10—others could not really chip in with runs. The final total of 56 runs in 11.5 overs was truly indicative of their poor batting display against a disciplined South African bowling attack. Markram’s leadership and the team’s cohesive performance sealed their spot in the final, leaving the Afghanistan lads to rue at missed opportunities.

The South African bowling was led by performances from Johnson, Rabada, Anrich Nortje, and Shamsi, all of whom took 3, 2, 2, and 3 wickets, respectively, to dismantle the Afghanistan batting lineup.

The thumping win of South Africa in the semifinal match told all that they are unstoppable and paved the way for an enthralling final clash in T20 WC 2024.
