Super Blue Moon The Earth has only one natural satellite, the Moon, which is about 400,000 kilometers away. That “Moon,” called “Jabilli” in Telugu, is always visible to human beings in some form, and many times, in special appearances, it is fascinating to see. One of these wonderful occurrences is that of the fully bright, larger-than-usual-form-of-the-Moon, otherwise called the “Super Blue Moon.” This thing has happened before, yet this year, it will happen four times. The first Super Blue Moon will occur on August 19.

In the vastness of the universe, strange and wonderful phenomena keep happening. This year, the Moon will appear as a Super Blue Moon. But here there will be four big Moons, and in the fourth one, the Moon will become a Blue Moon. So, the first Super Blue Moon is going to be visible Monday, August 19, from 2:26 PM. According to NASA, during this period, the Moon will appear 14% bigger and 30% brighter compared to a regular full moon since by then the moon will be 90% closer to Earth- it will be a Super Moon.

“Super Moon” was first used by astronomer Richard Nolle in 1979. Full Super Moons are the biggest and brightest full moons of the year since by then, the full moon appears to be 30% brighter and 14% larger compared to the full moon. There are two types of blue Moons: one is the seasonal blue Moon, when there are four full Moons in one season. The third one is called the Blue Moon, and to this category belongs the Moon of August 19. The next super moons following this one will appear in September and October.

A Super Blue Moon is set for August 19, and its visibility is set to be enjoyed by many people all over the world, with just a bit of variations depending on one’s geographical position. This is a lunar phenomenon that is seen all over the world. Come August 19 in North America, the Super Blue Moon will be visible for three full days, that is from August 18 until August 20 as indicated by NASA. Full moon in all its magnificence can be seen on the morning of August 20 from Asia and Australia. In India, Super Moon is visible from the night of August 19 to the early hours on August 20.

Although the Super Blue Moon is an event that will be viewed with the naked eye, it will be a lot clearer in less air-polluted areas. The viewing will be more enhanced with the use of binoculars and telescopes. This extra special event will happen on the day of Raksha Bandhan. The scientists have to advise everybody to carefully watch the Super Moon, risking no harm to the eyes. Throughout the world, people are keen to have a sight of this splendid astronomical presentation.
