Telangana: After announcing that it would introduce the Gaddar Awards—a breed of awards in the film industry, after the late revolutionary singer and activist—proposals have been forwarded by the Telangana Film Development Corporation, which the government has gone through. Accordingly, a prestigious committee comprising eminent personalities from the film industry has been formed to chalk out the guidelines, rules, and the logo for the Gaddar Awards.
Formation of the Gaddar Awards Committee
An official order by the government has set up the Gaddar Awards Committee, appointing renowned filmmaker B. Narsing Rao as the Chairman and prominent producer Dil Raju as the Vice Chairman. The advisors to the committee include some big names in the film industry: K. Raghavendra Rao, Andeshri, Tammareddy Bharadwaja, Allu Aravind, Gummadi Vennela, Tanikella Bharani, and Daggubati Suresh Babu. The others are lyricist Chandrabose, R. Narayana Murthy, Vande Mataram Srinivas, Allani Sridhar, Sana Yadireddy, Harish Shankar, and Balgam Venu. The Managing Director of TFDC has been nominated as Member Convener of the committee in this manner.

Role and Responsibilities and the Way Ahead
The government has entrusted the TFDC with conducting deliberations with the committee to finalise the framework regarding Gaddar Awards, including deciding on award categories, selection criteria and all other operational matters. After that, TFDC will start the next process according to the discussions and finally will submit a detailed report to the government.

The Gaddar Awards announcement created waves in the Telugu film industry. The Chief Minister of Telangana, Revanth Reddy, made it a point to mention that none have been consulted from Tollywood, to which the Telugu Film Chamber and Producers’ Council reacted promptly. Right away, these two entities took the initiative to reach out to the Telangana State Film Development Corporation for inputs in the formation of policies and procedures for the award. Sanguinely enough, the Telangana government has gone ahead and constituted a committee and formally launched the event titled Gaddar Awards on the basis of feedback and various recommendations.
