‘The Kerala Story’ was released in theatres on May 5. The Bollywood film has been derided by quite a few Opposition parties in India. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has banned the movie. In Tamil Nadu, ‘TKS’ has been removed from theatres purportedly owing to pressure from the ruling DMK. However, multiplex owners maintain that it was a voluntary move in the absence of support from people.
However, the BJP has been supporting the movie wholly. Prime Minister Narendra Modi invoked the controversial film on the day of its release while addressing a public rally in Karnataka. Union I&B Minister, soon after the film was banned in Bengal, criticized the TMC government.
In the latest instance, the film has received a fillip from the UP government. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has made the film tax-free in his State. A few other BJP-ruled States are likely to follow the move.
