TRAI Introduces New Guidelines for SimCards:*

Technology continues to advance over time, resulting in significant advancements. Be that as it may, with these turns of events, the pace of deceitful exercises has additionally expanded. Regarding the sale of SIM cards, there have been numerous irregularities in the mobile industry. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has issued new guidelines to address this issue, which will go into effect on July 1. Let’s look at these rules.

The Mobile Number Portability (MNP) regulations will be modified by TRAI. Nine new rules have been added since the MNP facility opened its doors in 2009. Online financial fraud prevention, SIM card user safety, and stricter verification procedures are the goals of the new guidelines.

According to TRAI, the Department of Telecom and various businesses participated in the formulation of these new regulations.

SIM swaps are the primary topic of change in the TRAI regulations. Users will now have to wait at least seven days before a SIM that has been stolen or damaged can be replaced. The number cannot be transferred to another network during this time. Solely after this period can another SIM be given.

Additionally, telecom providers are unable to issue a Unique Porting Code (UPC) to customers who change their SIM cards within seven days. This UPC code is vital for moving a portable number to another organization. By executing this holding up period, TRAI intends to keep others from taking SIM cards under another person’s name. A one-time password can be used to upgrade a SIM card. However, the network will change if a phone number is ported or placed under MNP. These new regulations have been issued by TRAI to address the possibility of fraud in these situations. Customers can go to the telecom operator and present identification documents in order to obtain a new SIM card or port the number if a SIM card is lost or malfunctioning.

Users of Airtel, Vodafone Idea, Reliance Jio, and other networks have been advised to exercise caution by TRAI. The primary goal of these new measures is to reduce online fraud.
