Trinamool-She said the incident has sent shock waves across the nation. “Women and doctors came out in huge numbers and held protest demonstrations on the streets. Doctors are holding protest demonstrations outside their hospitals to get justice for the victim and to make the central and state governments vigilant in the incident of attack on any hospital by any group of anti-social elements. Every day new details are emerging in the issue.

“Trinamool Congress MP and Bengali actress Rachana Banerjee had shared a video related to a junior doctor who was raped and murdered. In the video, she mentioned the name of the victim. All the netizens got aggressive over the video and started a wave of hate comments against her. People claimed that revealing the name of such a victim made Rachana a culprit and posted against her on social media. A lawyer from the Kolkata High Court even filed a complaint against her in court, accusing her of intensifying the suffering of the family by repeatedly mentioning the name of the victim in the video.

And as the backlash occurred, she posted an apology, stating that she deleted the video from social media, adding that it was her fault, that upon all this, she ought to have been careful. She said all of this to mean she was very emotional while recording the video, and the name of the victim slipped out of her mouth. To conclude the apology, Rachana says that she is really very sorry.

Charges of cooking up information have also trapped a BJP leader, along with two other doctors, in the same incident. The court has issued a notice for the three to be present at the Police Headquarters for questioning in an inquiry to be conducted on Sunday.

Meanwhile, taking cognizance of the case, the Supreme Court suo motu registered this case. The plea will now be heard by the Bench led by Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud from Tuesday. The intervention of the Supreme Court is likely to help in the speedier examination of the case; there may also be the possibility of a special committee or investigation team being set up in the matter.

Only a few other parts of West Bengal seem to get worse, as protests are gaining ground even there. Doctors protesting outside hospitals and other government health establishments have made the authorities deploy more personnel. Meanwhile, organisers of the Durand Cup match scheduled in the city of Kolkata today cancelled the match for the same account of protests.
