It was in jail that he came across one Shaik Sohail. Both of them were released on April 9, 2024, and the duo subsequently hatched a series of robbery plans with Salman.

Planning the Robbery

They did recce on ten jewellery shops within the Cyberabad, Hyderabad and Rachakonda Commissionerate limits and finally zeroed in on one at Medchal. On June 17, they stole a Pulsar 150 DTS bike from Habsiguda and concealed it on the outskirts of Medchal. A burqa and a knife were also procured. On the 20th of June, Kotadia and Sohail went to Medchal on an Ashok Leyland trolley with Kotadia dressed up in a burqa; they did some more reconnaissance in Medchal town.

Committing the Robbery

At about 1:40 PM, when the owners were away, Kotadia and Sohail entered Jagadamba Jewelry Shop. Kotadia threatened and stabbed the owner while attempting to steal gold ornaments. Their plan was foiled, and they were arrested later by police.

Security Measures and Advisory

The police issued advisory to the jewellery shops to beef up their security arrangements in regard to the incident. They recommended installing CCTV cameras inside, outside the shops, particularly those shops facing the road. Besides, security guards and provision for buzzer system for immediate alert within the shops shall be provided.

The Cyberabad police were prompt in arresting those suspects, and this gives the indication that vigilance was required throughout to security matters so such crimes can be prevented. The communities are always on high alert and must take recommended security measures in place to prevent other occurrences.
