Valmiki Community votes for First Time in Jammu and Kashmir Polls

Valmiki community in Jammu and Kashmir exercised their voting rights for first time in the assembly elections, after being denied for decades.

Voting is going on for the third and final phase of Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Elections 2024. Voting is going on since 7 am on 40 seats of the Union Territory. Extensive arrangements have been made by the Election Commission to ensure fair and peaceful voting in Jammu and Kashmir. Tight security arrangements have been made at all sensitive polling stations for security reasons. People belonging to Valmiki community exercised their right to vote for the first time in Jammu and Kashmir Polls – election.

After exercising the right to vote in Jammu and Kashmir election, Valmiki Community people said: They are happy that they have the right to vote after decades. They said that they hope that better days will come for their community. They want the government to support their social growth in the society. They expressed hope that they will get better opportunities after this change.

The satisfaction and happiness after casting votes were visible on Valmiki Community people’ faces.

Valmikis along with West Pakistan refugees and Gurkha communities comprise around 1.5 lakh people who reside in various parts of Jammu, Samba, and Kathua districts, particularly in border areas.
