Vijayawada : The municipal department has accelerated sanitation efforts in flood-affected areas. With the water levels receding, sanitation workers are now working tirelessly to clean up the affected regions on a war footing. Within the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation limits, there are 3,454 sanitation workers along with 450 public health department staff involved in the cleanup. Additionally, the government has brought in 5,889 sanitation workers from other municipalities to aid in the efforts.

As of this evening, by 4 PM, 4,498 workers were actively engaged in removing garbage from the streets. Furthermore, 48 fire engines have been deployed to remove waste from both streets and homes. The government is making all possible efforts to restore normalcy as quickly as possible.

However, there is criticism regarding the handling of the flood situation. A critic pointed out that comparing a stream to a river reflects a misunderstanding of the scale of the problem. The critic argues that officials are not adequately grasping the difference between the two, akin to someone who cannot distinguish between tomatoes and potatoes, thus indicating a disconnect between the officials’ decisions and the actual conditions experienced by the residents.

This criticism underscores a broader frustration with the management of the flood response. While the rapid mobilization of resources for sanitation is crucial, there is a concern that the response may not fully address the complexities of the situation, highlighting the need for a more nuanced and informed approach to disaster management
