White Paper Release Sparks Debate in Telangana Assembly

Deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka unveiled a comprehensive 42-page white paper on Telangana’s financial condition during a session in the Assembly. Asserting the government’s commitment to transparency, Vikramarka emphasized the need to present an accurate portrayal of the state’s economic status and governance responsibilities.

However, the sudden release of the white paper minutes before its discussion ignited controversy. Former minister Harish Rao, representing BRS, and other legislators, including MIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi and CPI MLA Koonanne Sambasiva Rao, raised objections. Rao questioned the feasibility of immediate deliberation on such a complex document, advocating for adequate time to comprehend its contents.

Responding to the concerns, Legislative Affairs Minister Sridhar Babu defended the government’s actions, citing past precedents of similar releases. Babu emphasized that the objective was to facilitate informed discussions and encouraged members to provide constructive feedback on the white paper’s content.

Following the brief adjournment for tea, the Assembly reconvened, setting the stage for a rigorous debate on Telangana’s economic landscape and governance strategies as outlined in the contentious white paper.
