TDP president Nara Chandrababu’s arrest in the Skill Development case has shaken Andhra politics. The high profile arrest of Chandrababu Naidu, who has the record of longest serving CM of AP, has taken even national leaders by surprise. While he is right now lodged in Rajahmundry Central Jail, his lawyers are trying to get a house remand.
While legal proceedings and investigation are going on, there is another matter which is worrying TDP top leaders. The response to the Bandh call given by TDP, protesting against Chandrababu’s arrest, has been mixed. In fact in many parts of AP, there was a lukewarm response from the public to the Bandh call given by the yellow party. This is worrying TDP top leadership.
While it is common for politicians to get interrogated or arrested in cases related to corruption, in such cases the supporters of leaders come out in big numbers to protest. But in case of Chandrababu Naidu’s arrest, there was not much activity from his supporters. In fact even TDP top leaders and former Ministers also did not even come up with vocal protests. In fact Pawan Kalyan has done more intense protest than TDP leaders and cadres. With elections just months away, this half-hearted response from the public in Chandrababu’s arrest issue is, worrying TDP top leaders now.
