YSRC Demands Inspection of EVMs from 15 Polling Stations

The YSRC party has requested that the Election Commission inspect the microcontrollers of the EVMs used at 15 polling stations in the Vizianagaram parliamentary constituency and in two assembly constituencies, Bobbili and Nellimarla. The party has also called for the same action in the Gajapathinagaram assembly segment and in 12 polling stations in the Ongole assembly constituency.

On June 1, 2024, the Election Commission issued a detailed administrative standard operating procedure. According to this order, the chief electoral officer (CEO) must inform the manufacturers within 30 days of the election results being declared on June 4. The relevant CEOs communicated this to the manufacturers 15 days ahead of schedule.

The inspection and verification process can begin within four weeks of an election petition being filed in the respective constituencies with the registrars of the high courts. The manufacturers will then provide a schedule for the EVM checking and verification within two weeks of receiving the election petition status from the concerned CEOs. The checking and verification of the units will commence within four weeks of the confirmation of the election petition status.
