9 districts in Telangana to get 2.5 lakh nutrition kits

In recent developments, Telangana government has decided to begin distribution of about 2.5 lakh KCR nutrition kits to pregnant women in 9 districts from today. Those kits will enhance the nutritional status of pregnant women, particularly those who suffer from anaemia, and the disease is highly common in  the nine selected districts. The Health minister T Harish Rao will launch the distribution virtually at Kamareddy district while ministers, MLAs and other public representatives will take part in the programme in the other 8 districts.

For this movement, the government is spending Rs 50 crore. The kits will be distributed in 9 districts like Adilabad, Bhadradri, Bhupalapalli, Jayashankar, Kothagudem, Jogulamba Gadwal, Kamareddy, Kumrambheem Asifabad,  Mulugu, Nagar kurnool and Vikarabad. According to estimates, about 1.25 lakh pregnant women will benefit from the kits.

Each nutrition kit comprises a kg of nutrition mix powder, a kg of dates, three bottles of iron supplementing syrup, half kg of ghee, an Albendazole tablet, a cup and a plastic basket. The main target is to reduce the prevalence of anaemia by increasing hemoglobin percentage in the womens’ blood by providing them essential nutrition.

The kits will be rendered once during the second ANC check up between 13 to 27 weeks and a second time during the third ANC check up between 28 and 34 weeks. The kits will be distributed in 231 health centres in 9 districts.
