BJP MLA gets 6 months of jail over election affidavit

On Thursday, the BJP MLA, Uday Garudachar was sentenced to two months jail and a penalty of Rs 10,000 by 42nd Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Court, Bengaluru, as the MLA was found guilty of hiding facts in his election affidavit. Uday represents the Chickpet Assembly seat in Bengaluru city and he is a first time MLA.

Since his jail term was less than 3 years, he was later granted bail. He has been asked to furnish Rs 25,000 bond and surety. He was charged with hiding two criminal cases against him in his election affidavit during the Assembly election that took place 4 years ago. 

According to a complaint from Prakash Shetty, a complaint was filed against him at Ashok Nagar police station. Another charge against him was that he had hidden the Managing Director post held by him in Maverick Holdings and Investments Private Limited and instead had mentioned that he was an investor in the Holdings. Another complaint against the MLA was filed by H.G Prashant
