To reopen the Archeological Survey of India-protected Hindu temples that are situated at various heritage sites across the nation, the government is considering bringing in legislation during parliament’s winter session, while disputations progress to raise over Gyanvapi Masjid, the Martand temple, and the Qutub Minar, among others.
Discussions are on to amend the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remain Act 1958. Ancient and historical monuments, Sculpture carvings, and other similar objects, archaeological sites, and remains are protected and secured under that law. To all intents and purposes, the sites where Hindu temples have been situated from ancient times are non-controversial. The arguments being provided by some ASI authorities are that these temples need to be resumed as they need regular maintenance.
The lieutenant governor of Jammu & Kashmir Manoj Sinha organized a religious event at the 8th century secured site of the Martand temple in South Kashmir lighting a gigantic row. Nagra Ashtamangala pooja which was held at the ancient sun temple was graced by Manoj Sinha and he described the event as a divine experience.
The 6th sultan of the Shah Miri dynasty of Kashmir, Sikandar Shah Miri wrecked the Martand sun temple and further, the temple was devastated by several earthquakes. An official in the Union culture ministry said that the Hindu temples which were situated in forts were disintegrating rapidly, even though these structures were being protected by the ASI. He also said that the temples can only be renewed and maintained by recommencing regular religious events and entailing local inhabitants.
