The Serum Institute’s Covid vaccine Covovax is suggested by the Standing Technical Sub-Committee of the NTAGI to administer to children in age groups between 12-17. An official source said, “The Covid-19 working group of the NTAGI had earlier reviewed data related to Covovax and gave a green signal for it. The NTAGI’s Standing Technical Sub-Committee has recommended that the vaccine can be used for 12-17 years age group.”
Requesting for Covovax’s inclusion in the immunization drive for children 12 years and above, Serum Institute of India director for Government and Regulatory Affairs, Prakash Kumar Singh had written to the Union Health Ministry recently.
In reply, Prakash Kumar said that the Pune-based entity is in plans to supply the Covovax Covid vaccine to private hospitals at Rs 900 per dose including GST, and was waiting for directions to furnish it to the Centre.
But the cost details of the vaccine are yet to be announced. India began administering Covid vaccines to 12-14 years children on the 16th of March. Still, Covid is booming in some parts of the world. Some countries have already witnessed the fourth wave of Coronavirus. Several health officials are warning the people that the pandemic is not over yet. Again, all the states’ governments have alerted their citizens and started implementing certain Covid measures strictly.
