Details on Covid beds unchanged for weeks

For weeks, the health department has not been updating the data on the number of beds occupied by Covid patients in its daily news on Covid-19. According to the reports submitted by experts, the government needs to update the data frequently to be prepared for any eventuality. From April 6-28, data on the number of occupied beds remained unchanged every day.

On all these days, the information showed that three beds in government hospitals and 22 in private hospitals were occupied by Covid patients. On April 29, when this correspondent brought this to the notice of the office of the director of public health, Telangana, the data was instantly updated in that day’s bulletin itself, which showed that 7 government beds and 14 private beds were occupied.

Conveying that 7 government beds and twelve private beds were occupied, the data remained unchanged from April 30-May 9. When the officials were questioned about no update, the public health director said the reason for the same was that no patients had joined the health care centers. The president of the Infection Control Academy of India said that the end time of the pandemic hasn’t been predicted by anybody yet, so both the central and state directorates should progress with implementations like frequent updates, tracking, and surveillance.
