Veteran leader former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Mulayam Singh Yadav passed away in Gurugram on Monday. He was in ICU and was observation at Medanta Hospital for the past few days. He breathed his last on Monday. The 82-year-old leader served thrice as Chief Minister of UP and Union Defence Minister.
Mulayam Singh Yadav is considered one of the most prominent leaders in Indian politics. Besides being a stalwart leader in UP, he has played a key role in national politics. He was instrumental in forming governments during United Front, UPA regimes. He rose to prominence during Emergency and was considered a follower of Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan and Ram Manohar Lohia. His demise marks end of an era and will create vacuum which cannot be filled.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress matriarch Sonia Gandhi, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, BSP chief and former UP CM Mayawati, Telangana CM KCR, AP CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and others expressed condolences on Mulayam Singh Yadav’s demise.
