In a first, Tamil Nadu Government introduced free breakfast for school students in the state. Chief Minister MK Stalin launched the breakfast for students scheme in Madurai on Thursday. Initially breakfast will be served to students of primarily classes first to fifth and later it will be expanded to all classes. CM MK Stalin had breakfast along with children after launching the program. He even fed students with his own hand on the occasion.
“No child should be denied education because of lack of food. It is the responsibility of Government to feed and educate every child. We will take all efforts to ensure that breakfast at schools is served forever without any hindrance. I urge officials to take care of the program, as they take care of feeding their own children,” said CM MK Stalin after launching the program.
Tamil Nadu has been one of the most active states in introducing welfare and populist schemes. In fact it was Tamil Nadu, which first introduced mid day meal scheme for school children. That scheme was a huge success, prompting many other states to follow it.
