The festival of colours ‘Holi’ is being celebrated every year on Poornima, the full moon day in Phalguna month. This year, the festival falls on March 18. It is a popular ancient festival, being celebrated by Hindus. It defines the eternal and divine love of Lord Radha Krishna.
Holi signifies the victory of good against evil. It is the victory of Lord Vishnu as Narasimha Narayana over Hiranyakashipu. It is specifically celebrated in the Indian subcontinent. The festival is famous for sprinkling colours on each other on this day and the day will be incomplete without sweets as well.
But generally, the colours are made with chemicals that cause damage to our skin and hair. However, that doesn’t mean you need to dampen your Holi celebrations. Just we have to learn how to prepare Holi colours with chemical-free. Read below how to prepare primary colours naturally at home.
1) Green colour
Ingredients :
Fresh coriander – 1 large bunch
Spinach leaves – 1 large bunch
Water – 11/2 cup
Cornstarch – 3 cups
Method
First grind the greens with water and strain them. In the juice add cornstarch. Mix till it gets perfect colour. Spread it on a tray and allow it to dry. Collect the colour using strainer and use.
2) Yellow colour
Ingredients :
Turmeric – 2 tbsp
Cornstarch – 3 cups
Water – 11/2 cups
Method :
Boil water and add turmeric to it. After boiling, pour the turmeric water into a wide vessel to cool it. Next, add corn starch to it and mix well. Allow it to dry in sunlight or microwave and crush it to form a powder. Yellow colour is ready to use.
4) Blue
Ingredients :
Blue food colour (LIquid) – 2 tbsp
Cornstarch or Talcum powder – 3 cups
Water – 3/4 cup
Method :
Add food colour and water to a vessel. Add cornstarch or talcum powder to this mixture and mix it well. Let it dry in sunlight or microwave. Natural blue colour will be obtained without chemical mix.
4) Pink colour
Ingredients :
Grated Beetroot – 2 cups
Cornstarch – 3 cups
Rose water – 2 tbsp
Water – 1 cup
Method
Place the freshly grated beetroot in a cloth and squeeze out the juice. Mix beetroot juice with corn starch and rose water. Mix till it gets perfect colour shade. Now spread it on a tray and allow it to dry. Strain the unwanted material and collect the colour finally.
