Here’s analysis of the performance of retained players so far in IPL 2022

The performances of the players in the ongoing Indian Premier League play a vital role in the calculation of chasing the title this season, becoming the victorious team. Last year, many players have missed out on squad selection, and now, they all are raising hands for the upcoming Australia T20 World Cup 2022.

Already, this season’s Indian Premier League has completed the first half of the tournament and entered its second phase. So, let’s have a glance at the performances of retained players like MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and others, so far.

1. Chennai Super Kings

The retained players in CSK are MS Dhoni, Moeen Ali, Ravindra Jadeja, and Ruthuraj Gaikwad. Among these players, MS Dhoni is progressing his performance in a decent manner throughout the season. He has secured 140 runs in 9 games with batting, including one fifty. While Moeen Ali was dropped after five games as the English all-rounder scored only 87 runs with the bat. Ravindra Jadeja, who walked out from the CSK captaincy mid-way through the tournament, is struggling both with bat and ball. He has acquired only 93 runs with the bat and has managed to get only 5 wickets with the ball. And, Ruthuraj Gaikwad has bounced back after the worst start in the league. The Maharashtra opener has secured 237 runs in 9 games, including two fifties.

2. Delhi Capitals

The retained players are Axar Patel, Anrich Nortje, Prithvi Shaw, and Rishab Pant. Among them, Pant has secured 234 runs with an outstanding strike rate of 149.04. All-rounder Axar Patel has scored 145 runs at the strike rate of 166.67 but has managed only 4 wickets in the 9 games. Opener Prithvi Shaw has secured 259 runs from 9 games with a healthy strike rate of 159.88. Anrich Nortje has played only 1 game, where he could not take out any wicket till now.

3. Gujarat Titans

The retained players are Hardik Pandya, Rashid Khan, and Shubman Gill. The team’s skipper Hardik has led with an example as he has obtained 308 runs, including three fifties, and has taken  4 wickets with bowling. Rashid Khan also has exhibited a super all-around display by taking 9 wickets with his leg spin and has achieved 71 runs with a strike rate of 197.22. Shubman Gill has had started, but of late, the elegant right-handed batter hasn’t been among the runs. He has scored 260 runs in 9 games, along with two fifties.

4. Kolkata Knight Riders

The retained players are Andre Russell, Varun Chakravarthy, Venkatesh Iyer, and Sunil Narine. Andre Russell has secured 227 runs in 10 games with a strike rate of 175.97. He had also taken out ten wickets. The team’s mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy has picked only 4 wickets in 8 matches. Venkatesh Iyer has managed only 132 runs in 9 games. He is yet to take a single wicket. On the other hand, Sunil Narine has taken out 7 wickets in 10 games with an impressive strike rate of 5.25.

5. Lucknow Super Giants

The selected players are KL Rahul, Marcus Stoinis, and Ravi Bishnoi. The team’s skipper KL Rahul, the stylish batter has occupied second place in the Orange Cap list with 451 runs, including two tons and many fifties. Marcus Stoinis, who joined the team after the first few games, is having a moderate season. He has managed to score only 90 runs and had picked up a solo wicket so far. While Bishnoi has secured 8 wickets in 10 matches.

6. Mumbai Indians

The retained players are Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Burmah, Suryakumar Yadav, and Kieron Pollard. The captain Rohit Sharma has scored only 155 runs in 9 games and he is yet to cross the 50-run mark. Jasprit Bumrah has scored only 5 wickets in 9 games. Surya Kumar has scored 290 runs in 7 games with a good strike rate of 147.21. While Kieron Pollard has scored only 125 runs with the bat and picked up 3 wickets with the ball in 9 games so far.

7. Punjab Kings

The retained players are Mayank Agarwal and Arshdeep Singh. The team’s captain Mayank is going through a rough patch as he has managed only 161 runs in 8 games. Left-arm spinner Arshdeep has picked out only 3 wickets in 9 games, but he is making the heads turn with excellent bowling in the death overs.

8. Rajasthan Royals

The retained players are Sanju Samson, Jos Buttler, and Yashasvi Jaiswal. The team’s captain has managed 298 runs in 10 matches, including two half-centuries. Jos Buttler has been the toast of the IPL so far. The swashbuckling batter leads the Orange Cap with 588 runs, including three centuries. Yashasvi Jaiswal was dropped after a string of low scores, he only secured 25 runs from 3 matches.

9. Royal Challengers Bangalore

The retained players are the former skipper Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, and Mohammed Siraj. Most possibly, Kohli is going through the lean phase of his career. He has secured only 186 runs in 10 games. Maxwell also has a somber IPL so far as the Australian batter has scored only 157 runs in 10 matches. Siraj’s performance has also been unsatisfactory with only 8 wickets in 10 matches.

10. Sunrisers Hyderabad

The team retained New Zealand captain Kane Williamson and two uncapped Indian players Abdul Samad and Umran Malik. Kane is having a below-par IPL with 195 runs in 9 matches. Abdul Samad was dropped after two matches. Umran Malik is lifting up the IPL with 15 wickets in 9 games.
