One of the reputed pharma entities in India, Maiden pharmaceuticals is accused of supplying the poor quality of drugs, as the company’s cough and fever syrups allegedly caused the death of over 60 children in the African country of The Gambia, last month. 

Vietnam and at least 3 states in India had taken action against the company. An alert had been issued by the World Health Organization on the 5th of this month, advising regulatory authorities and the public to halt consumption of 4 medical products manufactured by Maiden Pharmaceuticals that were identified as poor quality drugs.

The WHO marked the products as Promethazine Oral Solution, Kofexmalin Baby Cough Syrup, Makeoff Baby Cough Syrup and Magrip N Cold Syrup all made by the company based in Haryana, India. These drugs have taken the lives of 66 children in Gambia.

These four products may have also been distributed to other countries or regions through informal markets.
