Still, the dreadful Corona Virus is alive, and it is evolving in every part of the world with different types of variants. It’s nearly a month since we heard that the Covid fourth wave named, Stealth Omicron has emerged and started spreading across the globe.
Now, another new variant of Corona Virus has emerged in Gujarat, which is named, ‘XE’. The health officials have reported that XE was found in a 67-year-old man who had traveled to Vadodara from Mumbai. The Additional Chief Secretary Manoj Agarwal said that the XE variant was identified twelve days ago by Gujarat Biotechnology Research Centre.
According to Indian SARS-COV-2 Genomics Consortium, the sample was sent for confirmation, and they are trying to find his close contacts. The medical officer of Vadodara said that the patient had experienced the symptoms like fever, dry cough, and cold. At that time, he is along with his wife at a hotel in the city. After testing positive for Covid-19, the couple had boarded back to Mumbai and there, they are under quarantine.
About XE variant
XE variant of Covid was first identified in the UK in the month of January. It is a mix or recombinant of the Omicron BA.1 and BA.2 variants. The XE variant could have emerged when a patient was infected with both strains simultaneously. One thing that has been studied by the World Health Organisation is, that the XE variant could be 10% more transmissible than BA.2 (Stealth Omicron). And, the scientific analysts are undergoing more exploration on the new XE variant of Corona Virus.
