RBI clarified about Kalam, Tagore’s images on Indian currency

Recently, we heard that the Reserve Bank of India was looking to print the images of Abdul Kalam and Rabindranath Tagore on the currency notes. But now, the officials of RBI have given clarity on their final decision to do so.

They claimed that they are not at all making changes to replace Mahatma Gandhi with others. Its latest statement reads, “There are reports in certain sections of the media that the Reserve Bank of India is considering changes to the existing currency and banknotes by replacing the face of Mahatma Gandhi with that of others.”

The central bank also said that there is no such proposal in its policies. The RBI has rejected the multiple reports which were published by the Security Printing and Minting Corporation of India, which belongs to the Finance Ministry.

Those reports read, “Two separate sets of samples of Mahatma Gandhi, Rabindranath Tagore and APJ Abdul Kalam – watermarked notes sent to IIT-Delhi’s Dilip Sahahani.” All such kinds of reports were disregarded by the RBI later.
