In a decisive move by the Congress central leadership, A. Revanth Reddy, the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president, has been appointed as the Chief Minister of Telangana. The announcement was made following a report submitted by party observers who attended the Telangana Congress Legislature Party meeting in Hyderabad on December 4. Mr. Reddy, elected with a significant majority from the Kodangal Assembly constituency, is set to take the oath of office on December 7.
This historic decision marks a significant milestone as Revanth Reddy becomes the first Congress Chief Minister of Telangana since the state’s formation in 2014. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge approved the nomination based on the feedback provided by Congress observers, including Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and Telangana party in charge Manikrao Thakare.
Describing Mr. Reddy as a dynamic leader, All India Congress Committee general secretary K.C. Venugopal emphasized the extensive campaign efforts undertaken by him and other senior leaders in the run up to the election. The party’s commitment to fulfilling the aspirations of the people of Telangana was reiterated, with the new government’s top priority being the realization of promises made to the electorate.
The observers, including former CLP leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and Nalgonda MP N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, were present at the press conference where the announcement was made. The party is now gearing up to constitute the new Council of Ministers, with a maximum of 17 ministers, in addition to the Chief Minister. Balancing the interests and ambitions of the 64 MLAs, a mix of newcomers and seasoned politicians, will be a challenging task for the leadership.
