The former finance minister Rishi Sunak is all set to become the next prime minister of United Kingdom, after his lone remaining rival Penny Mordaunt stepped down from the post just a few minutes ago. Rishi Sunak was the only person formally nominated to become the conservative leader. The 42-year-old minister will spend Monday preparing to take over yet Downing Street.
Sunak will become the first person of color to lead the UK, and the youngest to do so in more than 200 years. He has given his first speech as conservative party leader, telling the party he is humbled and honored to win their support. He said, ” The United Kingdom is a great country,but there is no doubt we face a profound economic challenge. We need stability and unity, and I’ll make it my atmost priority to bring our party and our country together. I pledge that I’ll serve you with integrity and humanity. I will work day in, day out to deliver for the British people. “
