President Joe Biden is considering releasing a record amount of oil from US reserves by reacting to high gas prices during the war in Ukraine. Releasing about one million barrels per day from the strategic petroleum reserve for the coming months.
The news was revealed today when the president is scheduled to deliver remarks from the White House on gas rates. In conjunction with other nations, Biden announced a coordinated release of oil from the reserves in the previous month. Further, he disclosed about 60 million barrels in November.
A senior US defense official said that Russian forces have withdrawn from the Chernobyl nuclear power site. The withdrawal comes as a part of Russian troops near the Ukrainian capital have been replaced. On social media, a video has been posted which shows Ukrainian troops have taken back territory from Russian forces near the northern city of Chernihiv. Multiple numbers of Ukrainian forces were filmed in Sloboda village which is 19 kilometers away from Chernihiv.
The US government is self-assured in the evaluation that Russian president Vladimir Putin has been misinformed by his advisors about their military performance in Ukraine. The authorities of the US are hesitant of Russia’s claims, with the pentagon saying a small number of Russian forces near the capital have commenced repositioning but strikes against Kyiv are in progress.
Since the beginning of the Russian assault in February, more than four million people have departed from Ukraine. However, Ukraine and Russia have accepted three evacuation corridors. The president of Ukraine has sought tighter approvals in opposition to Russia and warned that almost all of Mariupol has been ruined. Satellite images of the besieged southern port city show entire blocks removed and military strikes hit a Red Cross warehouse.
