“YS Sharmila Takes Helm as Congress President in Andhra Pradesh”

YS Sharmila, the sister of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, has taken a significant step in her political journey by being appointed as the Congress President of the state unit. This move transpired after her entry into the Congress on January 4, accompanied by the announcement of merging her YSR Telangana Party (YSRTP) with the Congress.

The decision to appoint Sharmila comes on the heels of Gidugu Rudra Raju’s resignation from the role of Andhra Pradesh Congress President. Congress, in response, not only acknowledged Rudra Raju’s departure but also designated him as a special invitee to the Congress Working Committee.

Sharmila’s entry into Congress is a strategic political maneuver, and her leadership is poised to bring a new dynamic to the party in Andhra Pradesh. Her decision to align with Congress ahead of the Telangana Assembly polls, preventing a potential split of votes, underscores her strategic acumen.

Back in November 2022, Sharmila had announced YSRTP’s support for Congress in the Telangana Assembly polls, emphasizing her commitment to fostering collaboration in the political landscape. As she assumes the role of Congress President in Andhra Pradesh, Sharmila’s political journey continues to unfold with potential implications for the region’s political landscape.
