Former Bangladesh spinner Musharraf Hossain Rubel is no more

The left-arm spinner of Bangladesh Musharraf Hossain Rubel has been suffering from brain cancer since 2019. After, he experienced a sigh of relief from his health condition for some time. But again in November 2020, the tumor took a turn for the worst. He had been in hospital over the previous two weeks but returned home after another chemotherapy stint in recent times.

He has expired today at the age of 40. The Bangladesh Cricket Board tweeted, “The Bangladesh Cricket Board mourns the passing of former Bangladesh National Team player Musharraf Hossain Rubel. The left-arm spinner amassed over 550 wickets across all formats in a career spanning two decades. The BCB extends profound sympathies and condolences.”

As a Dhaka University student, Hossain made his excellent debut in the 2001-02 season. He was regarded as a significant part of domestic cricket and a regular in the lists of top-5 wicket-pickers in the National Cricket League and Dhaka Premier league tournaments. He had acquired the Player of the Match award in 2013 BPL. He also represented Bangladesh in International Cricket.
