Varun Tej is one of the successful heroes from the Mega family in the Tollywood industry. He made his debut through the Telugu film Mukunda, which was a 2014 film. Now, with his consecutive success in the Tollywood industry, he approached the audience through his recent sports drama ‘Ghani’, directed by Kiran Korrapati. Let’s see, whether he progressed with this film or not.

Story:

Varun Tej, who played Ghani, aspires to become a professional boxer like his father (Upendra), since his childhood days. But, Ghani suddenly faces obstacles in his life, witnessing the death of his father due to political disturbances in the sporting world. But Ghani doesn’t lose his hopes of becoming a professional boxer. In order to continue his efforts, he seeks the help of an ex-boxing champion Sunil Shetty, who played as Vijayendra Sinha and gets good training from him. Now, the plotline of the film defines how Ghani defeats hurdles and strives to fulfill his goal.

Review:

It is all fine on the part of Varun Tej’s physique, to render his performance as a sports enthusiast (boxer). His role is apt and has gone all out. His mother in the film, Nadia has executed well in her character. Jagapathi Babu as the villain is usually good. Also, the director’s choice, allotting Sunil Shetty in the role of a boxing coach. Moreover, Upendra’s emotional touch in flashback scenes is heartwarming.

Saiee Manjrekar’s debut worked well and he looks fair too, where her expressions and dialogue intonation are mesmerizing to hear. The boxing setup in the film is perfect. But there are some quite boring scenes in the first half, and it seems routine to watch. Whereas, the second half of the film, and the climax were projected in a decent manner.

Technical Aspects:

As usual, Thaman has tuned the background score well, boxing setup and visual effects played a key role in the film and are tremendous. Production values are excellent. Dialogues are decent, but there is slight dullness in editing, especially in the first half. The action choreography for all the boxing matches is artistic and influential.

Plus points:

  • Varun Tej
  • boxing set
  • second half
  • Thaman’s background score

Minus points:

  • First half
  • poor comedy
  • Romance less
  • predictable narration
  • routine story

Overall Review:

Excluding the actors’ performances, the second half, and the technical aspects, the film lacks comedy and romance. It is a drawback for the director not to include those aspects in the film, that amuse the audience in order to enjoy the entire film with an interest. Behind this, the director also lacks the narration which seems predictable. So, the overall review of the film says, it is half-pie.

Rating: 2.5/5
