Finally, the final match of the Indian Premier League was clinched by the debutant team Gujarat Titans. It became the second team to attain the IPL title in its debut season. Gujarat Titans prevailed over Rajasthan Royals by 7 wickets and were regarded as the champions of the season. GT didn’t have a good start, chasing a scanty target of 131.
As Gujarat batters found it hard to progress, Prasidh Krishna dismissed Wriddhiman Saha in the 2nd over. The team could only score 54 runs with Matthew Wade also departing in the fifth over, in 10 overs. But it was skipper Hardik Pandya and Shubman Gill who took charge. They did not give away many possibilities, although they were slow, to begin with.
However, Shubman Gill and David Miller took charge, after Yuzvendra Chahal dismissed Hardik Pandya in the 14th over for 34 runs. David Miller (32 off 19) and Shubman Gill (45 off 43) led Gujarat to the title with 11 balls remaining. For the IPL 2022 final, Gujarat Titans reserved their best bowling performance, restricting Rajasthan Royals to 130/9. It is the least total in an IPL final after RPS (129/8) in 2017.
