UIDAI to examine Aadhaar holders’ updated information

As states across the country are planning to issue the two documents at a time, all birth certificates will soon come with Aadhaar. All states are expected to be on board in the next few months. The fingerprints and biometric data are captured when the child turns five. The biometric details must be updated, when the child turns 15.

The number of infants enrolled over the last few months along with the birth certificate was not readily available. 134 Aadhaar cards have been issued so far, with Assam and Meghalaya being among states where the whole population is yet to get the unique ID. As populations in remote areas have not been fully enrolled, Ladakh and Nagaland too haven’t reached full saturation.

As per sources, they are trying to reach these parts of the country as soon as possible and the pace has picked up in Assam and Meghalaya. The Unique Identification Authority of India is seeking voluntary updation of population details as several Aadhaar holders have moved to a new address or have changed their mobile number.

The updation can be done online through the mAadhaar app or at Aadhaar centres and even postmen are now being developed to tackle it. The service is available at a cost of Rs 50. An additional security was required in case of updates for biometric details.
