The prominent Covid-19 vaccine company Moderna has asked the United States drug regulator for emergency authorization to sanction its second booster shot for all adults. The officials of the company tweeted, “The request to the US Food and Drug Administration would permit for a 4th dose of our #COVID-19 vaccine in adults of 18 years age group and also for old people who have received the first booster shots of any approved vaccine companies.”
Earlier, the makers of other Covid mRNA vaccine Pfizer BioNTech has also asked for emergency approval for a second booster shot, but that will be available only for the people who are aged 65 and above. As per the initial Israeli study, rates of confirmed infections were 2 times lower and rates of severe illness were 4 times lower among individuals who received an additional booster shot, when compared to those who only received one shot.
The study says the second booster dose is limited to the people of age 60 and above and they can receive the second booster shot after the four months of the first booster inoculation. The second study says that the antibody levels are high in the people who received second booster shots, more than the people who received only one.
