The United States has announced that the global Covid summit will take place on May 12, where Covid prevention plans for future disarrays will be framed to put check for the dreadful virus. It will be chaired by the United States including present G7 president Germany, G20 president Indonesia, African Union chair Senegal, and Belize, the current chair of the CARICOM Caribbean grouping.
A joint statement of the countries reads, “The summit will redouble our collective efforts to end the acute phase of the Covid-19 pandemic and prepare for future health threats.” Since the origin of the Coronavirus, this is the second global conclave on the pandemic, which has taken the lives of more than 6 million people and prompted deep-seated wrecking to chief economies and trading patterns in a couple of years.
Despite the fact that the death toll has witnessed a slump globally, the virus is in its progression, curbing many leading countries from completely lifting restrictions. As per another joint statement, “Ahead of the May 12 summit, we are calling on world leaders, members of civil society, non-governmental organizations, philanthropists and private sector to make new commitments and bring solutions to vaccinate the world, save lives now, and build better health security for everyone, everywhere. We know we must prepare now to build, sustain and finance the global capacity we need, not only for emerging Covid variants but also for future health hassles.”
The United States is on a target to inoculate at least 1.1 billion Covid vaccine doses for global use within this year. A senior administration authority said, “It’s vital Congress acts now so the US can continue our momentum in the international effort to get shots in arms in every part of the world, no matter how far, and to prevent the spread of the next Covid variant with our international allies and partners.”
