Why Amitabh Bachchan Keeps Telugus on their Toes

The legendary Amitabh Bachchan is all set to make a grand comeback into Tollywood with the much-talked-about ambitious film, “Kalki 2898 AD.” Producer Lagadapati Sridhar exclaimed, “I am on cloud nine that he is doing a Telugu film after such a long gap. He looks stunning in the trailers, and his charisma is unmatched. Amitabh Bachchan is an icon of Indian cinema.”

ViewHolder Sridhar, an out and out Amitabh fan since college days, reiterated there are lakhs of Telugus like him, who like Amitabh’s style, baritone voice and swag. He drew from memory how Amitabh ruled the Telugu box office from the 70s to the 90s with “Sholay,” “Amar Akbar Antony,” “Don,” and “Naseeb.” Sridhar has mentioned that Amitabh’s “Don” ran for more than one year at Tarakarama Theatre in Hyderabad, indicating his crowd-pulling capacity. “Sholay” had silver jubilee runs in several centers in united Andhra Pradesh, while “Coolie” was also a big hit.

Unparalleled Popularity

The popularity of Amitabh Bachchan was not confined to Hyderabad; it prevailed in Vijayawada and Vizag, as well. His movies, like “Shehenshah,” made much noise, pulling great openings within the united Andhra Pradesh. However, he ultimately lost his market here in the Telugu region. After being primarily concentrative in working with Bollywood movies, Amitabh worked on a Telugu film, “Sye Raa Narasimhareddy,” alongside megastar Chiranjeevi. At the box office, however, it was a loss. Sridhar noted, “It was a poorly-etched role for someone of Amitabh’s stature and immense talent, by which his Telugu fans were disappointed.”

A Promising Comeback

Not deterred by this setback, Sridhar is bullish over Amitabh’s role as Aswadhama in the much-talked-about “Kalki 2898 AD.” He feels that already in the trailers there are bits and pieces of acting genius of Amitabh. “At 80-odd years, he may not be drawing the initial openings in Telugu states, but once audiences are in theatres, he is bound to captivate them with his riveting performance,” Sridhar concluded.

Tollywood is eagerly awaiting the return of Amitabh Bachchan, and people have high hopes that “Kalki 2898 AD” will turn out to be a fitting platform for yet another display of his legendary talent. With his evergreen enigmatic charm and acting acumen unmatched by any other actor, Amitabh is all set to weave magic once more.
