Recently, during a debate with former U.S. President Donald Trump in Atlanta, current President Joe Biden stumbled, which drew widespread criticism from the major opposition party. However, the ruling Democratic Party dismissed these concerns.
The opposition questioned if stumbling meant Biden couldn’t fulfill his duties as president. In response, the Democrats criticized the opposition leaders, stating that a mere stumble does not disqualify him from being president. Meanwhile, Biden is facing opposition within his own party. Several key leaders and some prominent news organizations are also raising this issue.
One major news outlet editorialized, “To serve the country, Joe Biden must step down from the presidential race. There is no rationale for him to continue as the Democratic Party candidate this time.” Another newspaper expressed that removing Biden from the Democratic candidate race is an act of patriotism.
However, Biden himself has stated that he is continuing in the presidential race. He mentioned this recently while speaking to his supporters in New Jersey. On the other hand, a survey conducted after the debate with Trump indicated that 10% of the voters are leaning towards Joe Biden, according to his team.
Meanwhile, Democratic Party representatives are scheduled to meet in Chicago from August 19-22, where they will officially confirm their candidate for the presidential election. To secure the presidential nomination, a candidate needs the support of 1,975 delegates, and Joe Biden currently has the support of 3,894 delegates.
Regarding the criticisms about his stumbling during the debate with Trump, Biden acknowledged that he did stumble. He admitted that with age, he is not as agile as he used to be. However, Biden expressed strong confidence in his ability to effectively fulfill the duties of the presidency.
